Joey Jumper

This is Joey Jumper, a lively CG character kangaroo who lives in Zootopia. While watching the Disney film, I realized that no kangaroos live in this world. So I decided to design one as a full CG character that fits seamlessly into the Zootopia universe.

Design & Concept: The design was inspired by the Zootopia art style, rounded shapes, expressive features, and a strong silhouette. I wanted Joey to feel like a natural citizen of Zootopia, so I studied the proportions and design language of the original characters. His posture reflect a young, energetic personality.

Workflow: Joey Jumper was sculpted and painted in ZBrush, with the eyes modeled in Maya. The fur was groomed using XGen to achieve a soft, stylized look that matches the Zootopia aesthetic. Lighting and rendering were done in Arnold, with final compositing and color adjustments in Photoshop.

Challenges: One of the biggest challenges was the fur grooming. Getting the right balance between realistic fur behavior and the stylized Zootopia look required a lot of iteration. Another challenge was the eyes, they needed to feel alive and expressive while staying true to the design style.
